The Connecticut Historical Society, a non-profit museum, research library, and education center connecting the past with the present and providing a guide for the future, today announced that 49 of the 274 students that competed in History Day in Connecticut on May 8, 2010 will advance to the National History Day Competition this June in Washington, D.C.
For this year?s competition, students in grades 6-12 from across Connecticut were tasked with creating projects that reflected the theme Innovation in History: Impact and Change. Submissions included exhibits, performances, documentaries, websites and papers. Entry topics included Harry Truman, Galileo, The Wright Brothers and the telephone, among other topics of historical significance.
?We were impressed by the caliber of the submissions and the creativity that students showed in their presentations,? said Ben Gammell, Coordinator of Teacher Services, Connecticut Historical Society. ?History Day is a great program to help students discover history for themselves and make connections to their own lives. We thank all of the students and teachers for their participation in History Day and wish all of the first and second place winners the best of luck at the National competition.?
